The appearance of the Infiray ZOOM ZH38 is likely with its novel optical zoom function shake up the market for thermal imaging devices. Right? We will find out for you! The ZOOM ZH2021 has been available since October 38. Infiray However, they had already provided us with a prototype in advance, which we used in-depth assessment have undergone. You can see the result of our test in the video. We focused our test on this technical data, the software, the handling and of course the new zoom function placed.
Since this is a prototype, the software and equipment are of course not yet in the final stage at the time of testing. The final Infiray ZOOM ZH38 and the prototype we tested may differ in their performance, provided the manufacturer still does some adjustments and improvements carried out on the product. Nevertheless, the technology of the device is definitely no longer in its infancy, which is why we are giving you one now and in advance honest report would like to share our experiences with the “world first”.
We took the thermal imaging camera into the area and tried out all the functions in the wild. We tell you in ours Infiray ZOOM ZH38 test, what we already have liked the device and which weak points the manufacturer should help with. Stay tuned for the pictures and our verdict!
The Infiray ZOOM ZH38 review
This is what the ZOOM does – all technical data at a glance
Before we do that Infiray If you want to put the ZOOM ZH38 to the test in the area, let's take a quick look at it in advance technical data of the new device. The camera has a sensor with a Resolution of 614 x 512 pixels. That is absolute High-end quality, which is hard to beat – especially in this price range. As you can see in the video, the recordings with the ZOOM leave nothing to be desired: ultra-clear images with a impressive sharpness of detail await you.
Of course, other thermal imaging devices also deliver such high quality. The highlight of ZOOM: The device has two different, integrated focal lengths! This means that you can switch between a 19x and 38x lens while using it and experience the high-resolution quality with two different basic magnifications: 1,6x magnification with the 19x lens, 3,2x magnification with the 38x lens. This gives you a camera that... quite variable can be used for observation in the inventory as well as in the field. What should be highlighted is the particularly high detection range of up to 1.974 m. You can find out how well this new optical zoom performs in practice in the next section.
Other features include a AMOLED display, on which the high resolution comes into its own perfectly, as well as one recording , and a 32GB internal memory for videos and photos. The field of view can be changed from 17 m to 34 m (100 m distance) by turning the focus ring, which is well suited for both the crop and the field. In addition, this has Infiray ZOOM ZH38 via one WiFi connection, with which you record about the Infiray-Share the app or transmit it in real time across multiple mobile devices at the same time.
Another special feature of the Infiray ZOOM ZH38 affects his Duty cycles: The camera comes with two batteries supplied, each of which can be exchanged. A single battery already has a running time of 10 hours, giving you a total operating time of an impressive 20 hours receive if you carry the second battery with you in the area!
The technical data summarized:
- Detection range 1.974 m (38 lens) / 987 m (19 lens)

The test to the example – that Infiray ZOOM ZH38 is being tested
The technology looks promising. But what can that do? Infiray ZOOM ZH38 really? We took the prototype to the station and tested it. We have put together for you what we noticed as particularly good or in need of improvement.
- The pocket: Our first point of criticism is not about the ZOOM itself, but rather the bag in which it comes. The camera is in one padded black hard case, in which the high-quality device lies safely. In itself, a piece of equipment that there is nothing wrong with, if it weren't for one small but audible problem: the rattling of the Zipper and holding eyelets on the bag are in motion extraordinarily loud. If you don't deliberately move slowly and carefully with the bag, the game could easily be frightened by the noises - extremely inconvenient for the huntsman! Of course, you could also take the camera out in advance and carry it around with you while stalking - after all, that's what it does ZOOM despite everything solid and durable impression. However, you won't want to miss out on the additional protection that a bag offers for such a high-priced device. That's why we think: The manufacturer could have offered a better solution, especially for a "small thing" like the zipper.
- Equipment and keyboard: As you can see, we want to give you as comprehensive an opinion as possible Infiray ZOOM ZH38 also gives and addresses points that appear to be insignificant. From there, let's move on to what's in the bag: the ZOOM itself. First of all, it has to be said that the thermal imaging camera lies well in the hand and thanks to the Rubber coating very grippy feels. The buttons are large and easy to use with one hand, which is further supported by the hand strap attached to the device: the ZOOM sits securely in the hand, while the silent ones grope with your fingers very easy to use are. There is also a thread on the device to which a carrying strap can be screwed, allowing it to be transported safely. There is nothing to complain about here! However, we do find one point of criticism Okular: Here the manufacturer used a rubber as an eyecup. Since it is only folded up, it quickly slips down when you take the camera out of the bag and could get lost. The manufacturer could, for example, have one here Bonding of the rubber to address the problem. What we also noticed: If you press on in the menu Luminous symbol, a lights up on the side of the camera green LED. We haven't figured out exactly what this function is all about yet. However, it is particularly impractical when hunting at night, as the game could perceive the light and be frightened.
- Software and menu: During our test we also noticed that you can go straight into the Look at the center of the image must in order to perceive a really sharp image. If you look at the edges of the field of vision, it has an effect Image blurry. The menu on the screen is also very bright and sometimes blinds the eyes, which is what the later version of the Infiray ZOOM ZH38 will certainly still be fixed or adjustable. That Menu in itself, however, is very intuitive and clearly understandable – even if it is currently only available in English. However, we have a problem with the controls within the menu slight hesitation noticed when you switch between the individual menu items. This problem is also most likely due to the prototype version of the software. We are confident that the final device will be controlled smoothly.
- The battery: The Infiray ZOOM ZH38 comes with two batteries delivered, which has an operating life of 20 hours in total promise. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to determine for you whether this announcement is true. But what we noticed is that replacing the batteries sometimes a bit tricky is. There are fold-out rings on the batteries that you can use to pull them out of the camera. Here you should be careful not to pull on the rubber too hard, otherwise it could tear off. In itself, however, the ZOOM's removable battery system is a practical idea that makes carrying a power bank completely unnecessary. Hunting trips that have to be canceled because the equipment no longer has power are now a thing of the past.
- The zoom function: Let's finally get to the most important feature of the Infiray ZOOM ZH38. What about the one advertised? variable magnification? Here we can give a quick and clear answer: switching between the 19 and 38Lens works perfectly with the help of the focus ring and met all the expectations we had of the camera in this regard. No matter whether for the stock with a wide field of view or for the depth of detail at a long distance in the field - simply turn the lens and you focus razor sharp at the right distance. Here the ZOOM impresses across the board – simply brilliant!
- The weight: Finally ours Infiray ZOOM ZH38 tests we weighed the camera and came up with impressive results 578 g. Despite its compact appearance, the ZOOM weighs a fair amount, which isn't all that surprising given the powerful technology built into it.
We have listed the most important features that impressed us about the ZOOM and the weak points that we believe the manufacturer should address again for you here:

A camera that everyone likes? – Our verdict on the Infiray ZOOM ZH38 review
Since the product tested is a prototype, the points of criticism we found should of course not be too significant. Regardless of this, we can already say that the ZOOM is one All-round successful thermal imaging camera is. Whether it will actually become a game changer in the segment remains to be seen. In any case, the ZOOM in its final version will be a device that Expectations most hunters will be more than satisfactory.
